Now this is simply stunning: a raucous, ‘kick ass’ geetar fest of epik suvvern rokk proportions! This band is (arguably) far more the REAL Molly Hatchet THAN the official Molly Hatchet. How so? Steve Holland, Riff West, Bruce Crump, Jimmy Farrar… ALL classic era MH members… sadly the ‘mainstay’ of both MH and latterly GC has passed on… the immortal Duane Roland… and stepping up to bat is a long lost world-class BRITISH axe hero! It was the guitar in ‘his’ picture on the GC site that made me look twice… and then a third time… surely it couldn’t be? Could it? Ladeez ‘n’ Genlemenz I give you Paul ‘Tonka’ Chapman (long lost guitar hero from Lonestar and (of course) UFO!) Un-freakin’-believable! And boy does he sound ‘on fire’ here! Rounding out this immaculate band is an old MH friend, Linni Disse, partnering messrs Chapman and Holland to create that ‘classic’ MH triple geetar attakk!
If I have one ‘tiny’ criticism of this amazing band, it’s that they lack the melodic keyboard input that is so much a part of MH sound. John Galvin is (of course) forever ensconced in the ‘official’ MH, but how about looking up Doug ‘Bingo’ Bare (ex-Mother’s Finest/Blackfoot)? He’d be a perfect fit for GC… just a thought really. For your hard earned moolah, what you get is a rough housin’, raw, rootsy ‘n’ bloodied romp through most of the most classic and timeless ‘hatchet toons, played with heart, soul, and unbridled passion. The band sounds absolutely stunning, no overdubs, no polish, just shit kicking Suvvern Rawk at its very best! Blasting through 13 classic songs, including a brand new single “Oh Atlanta”, this sumptuous ‘live’ album makes me want to ‘air-guitar’ madly, and puts a HUGE shit-eatin’ grin on my face! This band deserves your attention, your respect, and your love, so do yourselves a COLOSSAL favour, and buy a copy right now. Itunes has it, YOU NEED IT… so buy it!
