| Welcome,
finally, to Hierophant Nox issue VIII. First off, massive apologies for this update running a whole week behind schedule! I hope you will forgive us, and allow the quality of the releases we've featured make up for the seven days of frustration. As I'm sure you'll appreciate, putting a webzine together isn't exactly a FTSE 100 career, and when faced with an employment crossroads during the construction of Issue VIII, I really had no option but to 'down tools' for a critical period of time and sort out the 'day job'. I've seen friends who work in the industry - for zines, as promoters, as managers, even as label owners - face some really harrowing circumstances when their 'proper' job throws them a curveball, and I've had some soul-searching (and resume writing!) to do in order to keep myself on track. This (hopefully) achieved, it's now time to put the best of international extreme music on your plates! I'd like to thank the HN crew for helping me out so much this time around; Satanic Muttley was possessed by some spirit of insane creativity, and has definitely come up trumps in this fortnight's collection of reviews, subjecting himself to a huge range of styles in search of the choicest releases. Our webmaster, Luke has once again pulled everything together admirably, whilst behind the scenes the 'demonic forces' (i.e. Dave Waite) gather up information and comment for some really special future articles. I'm extremely pleased to announce that our 'sleeper partner' Paul King will be joining us on a more vocal and active basis very soon (once I remember to send him his material), and also that I've recruited a new staff writer, who will be making himself known in the not-too-far-off future. We're quickly reaching the stage where a manic and unhinged editor needn't bugger up a schedule- hoorah! Anyway... aside from our reviewing endeavours, which have turned up some incredible releases this time around, we've also created a special feature detailing all the happenings and goings-on of a recent visit to northern climes by London-based true battle metallers Stuka Squadron. You can read a report of their gig, as well as finding out a whole lot more about their band concept, musical outlook and rather amazing experiences (real and imaginary) in our in-depth interview. Once again we're sorry to have made you wait - will this delay mean there will be no Hierophant IX on the 23rd April?? Does it hell!! We'll be back again in ONE WEEK'S TIME. Our full-size issue will bring you a special feature examining the workings and plans of one of the UK's most exciting new promoters, as well as a flotilla of reviews, and a veritable armada of interrogations. Check in with us in the meantime for all your metal news. As ever, if you'd like to feature on our pages, contact me at hierophantnox@gmail.com, or on Myspace at www.myspace.com/hierophantnox. We look forward to hearing (from) you. Darkest Regards, Ellen - EDITOR |
