Shipwrecked Sounds

Conquest of Steel

Every issue, we will be asking a different band or artist to reveal their Shipwrecked Sounds- the albums they would like to miraculously cling onto after being attacked by pirates at sea and washing up on an island…which magically has a hi-fi on it. Bradford-based true metal warriors Conquest of Steel took up the challenge, and managed to narrow it down to these five crucial cuts:

                                                       IMNumberoftheBeast.jpg (42629 bytes)
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast. Difficult to choose which Maiden album, but this has so many classic tracks on that it just pipped the others. Of course with fantastic artwork it looks great on vinyl, but as vinyl addicts this unfortunately means that we never get to play it on the road. Oh well, a I guess that just leaves more time to listen to the next choice...

                                                       ManowarLthanH.jpg (49092 bytes)
Manowar - Louder than Hell. This is the bands 'on the road' album. We never leave the country without it. It may not be the best Manowar album ever but classic tracks such as 'Return of the Warlord', 'Brothers of Metal' and 'Power' are great tunes to keep the Metal spirit high on long journeys.
                                                       dioholydiver.jpg (38201 bytes)
Dio - Holy Diver. We have been covering the classic title track from this album for some time now and it's always a great track to play, but even better to bang your head to after a few beers late at night.
                                                       JudasPainkiller.jpg (22215 bytes)
Judas Priest - PainKiller - For us, this is the standout Priest album. Full of power and energy, Priest at their fastest and heaviest. You can't go wrong with Night Crawler, Leather Rebel (a track we have covered in the past) and Hell Patrol. Full on Heavy Metal at its finest.
                                                       PrimordialTTND.jpg (49526 bytes)
And last but not least, a slightly different and more recent album - not something ususally associated with Conquest of Steel -
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead. This is undoubtably a modern classic. The passion that is displayed on this album makes it essential listening for anyone who really cares about honest, sincere, from the Heart Metal, whether it be True, Black, Doom or whatever. A better example of what Metal should be about cannot be found within modern Metal music. This carries the spirit of the eighties into modern times.
